Root Canal Treatment | Aspetar Abu Dhabi
Endodontics, often known as root canal therapy, is a dental technique used to treat infections inside the teeth. A tooth that might otherwise need to be totally extracted can be saved using root canal therapy, which is not painful.
The crown and roots make up a tooth. The roots are primarily below the gum, whereas the crown is mostly above it. The tooth is joined to the jawbone via the roots.
The pulp is located inside the crown and the root, or the root canal. The pulp hydrates the tissue around the tooth and feeds it nutrients. The pulp’s nerves interpret heat and cold as painful.
The term “root canal” actually refers to a dentistry procedure called endodontic therapy, which means “within the tooth.”
But the phrase “root canal” is now frequently used to refer to the treatment.
What are the procedures?
Three steps make up root canal therapy, and each one requires one to three visits to complete.
1. In the root canal
The dentist starts by emptying the root canal of everything.
The dentist creates a tiny access hole on the tooth’s surface while the patient is under local anaesthetic, then uses tiny files to remove the diseased and dead pulp tissue.
2. Adding root canal filler
The dentist then uses irrigation solutions and microscopic files to clean, shape, and disinfect the hollow area. The tooth is then filled with a rubber-like substance, and the root canals are completely sealed with adhesive cement.
The tooth is dead after receiving root canal therapy. Due to the removal of the nerve tissue and the infection, the patient will no longer experience any pain in that tooth.
3. Constructing a crown or filling
The tooth will now be more brittle than before, though. The ligament holding a tooth to the bone must provide sustenance for a tooth without pulp. Although the supply is sufficient, the tooth will eventually become more fragile, thus a crown or filling provides security.
